What is Lenticular?

  • Shows dynamic movement (like airbag deployment)
  • Can create three-dimensional images
  • Arrests reader attention

Have you ever seen a plastic baseball card that shows the full range of the batter’s swing? Or perhaps, a point of purchase display for a recliner that shows the chair in the upright and extended positions? Maybe you’ve seen a piece where the image appears to be three-dimensional. All of these applications utilize an exciting new medium for printing, lenticular.

This 3D and motion imagery is quickly becoming a technology of choice for advertisers on a variety of products. Mass distributions of lenticular video covers, trading cards, cereal box premiums and cover art, packaging, mouse pads and a variety of other products have become commonplace just within the last two years.

The technology speaks for itself, displaying a variety of special effects including 3-D, video and cartoon animations, image flipping and morphing all on a single surface. No special glasses, equipment, or devices are needed to view a lenticular image. It can be a small, hand-held printed item such as a book or postcard or a large advertising display.
